The 8th Annual Law and Order Golf Tournament

On Monday, May 24th, 2010, the Baltimore States Attorney's Office and the Baltimore Police Department will host the Eigth Annual "Law & Order" Charity Golf Tournament and Silent Auction to benefit The Baltimore Child Abuse Center, Inc.

Just for a moment, imagine a child who loves and trusts you -- perhaps your daughter, your grandson, one of your neightbors. This child comes to you and shares a terrible secret. He or she has been sexually abused. You desperately want to help the child recover from this horrific experience and see that justice is done. How can you help break the cycle of sexual abuse? How can you help the child? Where can he or she turn for assistance?

Facts about Child Abuse:

  • One in three girls and one in eight boys are sexually abused by their 18th birthday.
  • Only 10% of all sexually abused children reveal their abuse.
  • Eighty percent of sexually abusive fathers and physically abusive mothers were abused children.
  • The average age of a female victim at The Baltimore Child Abuse Center is 8 years old.
  • Approximately 20% of the sexually abused children we serve at The Baltimore Child Abuse Center are male.
  • Approximately 80% of the sexually abused children we serve at the Baltimore Child Abuse Center are abused by an adult or juvenile male known to the child. This individual is most likely a family member such as the father, stepfather, mother's boyfriend, uncle or other close male relative.
  • Abused children are 24 times more likely to commit sex crimes, than non-abused children.
  • Between 60 and 75% of adolescents arrested for juvenile crime are abused as children.

Over the past seven years, with the financial support and donations of many area businesses, our events have been deemed a tremendous success, raising over $50,000 for the Center.
